Guatemalan Community – Generous with their time
On Sunday October 27th, 2013 members of the Guatemalan community in Ottawa came out to help us create a little Guatemalan scene near St. Vincent hospital. The location just across from the Dominican College University, was once part of a convent and had a look that could pass for sections of Antigua, Guatemala.
While no location in Ottawa could duplicate the splendor of that Central American city, members of the Guatemalan community brought out ‘tipica,” typical objects that were used as props that added to the feeling of a small Guatemalan market place complete with traditional indigenous clothes, the making of tortillas and traditional music.
We really want to thank everyone for their efforts. It was very much a gift of generosity.
Land of Eternal Spring in Canada – an illusion
Even though we created a scene from the Land of Eternal Spring, we had to do it in the Land of Eternal Winter (or at least it feels that way sometimes)
Our principal actors Robin Hodge, Joyce Rivera and Armando Valdes added to the illusion it was a warm Central American day – when the temperatures were really dipping toward the single digits. Therefore, when you heard the words “cut,” everyone ran for their sleeping bags and heavy jackets and danced around trying to stay warm.
Thank you for soldiering on!
The production is for the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability and will be part of their campaign “Open for Justice”
